Twenty-five years ago, a group of courageous people lobbied to create the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a landmark civil rights law that has improved the lives of millions of Americans now and for generations to come.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary, we transformed steps all around Washington DC into works of art honoring the heroes of the Disability Rights Movement.
Why steps? Because 25 years ago, people with disabilities physically pulled themselves up the steps of the Capitol to protest the lack of accessibility standards which helped lead to the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
